Humanitarian Organization for Poverty Eradication & Environment (HOPE), in partnership with FTF-GCAP held a “climate justice, gender & poverty “ hearing in Balochistan on 26th November 09 at Quetta Serena Balochistan. Prior to the hearing, community awareness sessions were held with seven community based organizations in different districts of the province.
Climate Justice Poverty Hearings and Women's Tribunals on Climate Justice have been taking place for the last month from Peru to Ghana to the Seychelles, with more scheduled to take place in the run up to next month's UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.
Earlier this month, the Feminist Task Force of the Global Call to Action against Poverty organised a tribunal focusing on poverty and climate justice, specifically water management and pollution. Witnesses included 119 years old Madam Gbenana Abariowei, one of the survival of the Odi ‘massacre’, among other community members, jurists and experts.
